Who's Your Tom Chorske

Background: I grew up with Tom Chorske (for those outside of MN, he played NHL hockey for 10 years, in MN that's a big deal). Tom was (and still is to some degree) everybody's All American...great athlete, great student, great guy, etc. In a lot of circles (namely Minnesota, namely hockey) Tom became "famous".

Invariably (once a month at least) I will run into a person from the past (classmate, teacher, coach, neighbor, principal, etc) and the second question they ask me (after how are you doing?)is are you still in touch with TOM CHORSKE? No lie. After a while, I have just come to realize that people are infatuated with fame/famous people.

So, the other day Tom and I were talking and I'm telling him about the most recent "are you still in touch with Tom Chorske?". It was a Principal at our elementary school. No lie. As he and I were chuckling, Tom says, "that's nothing, you don't know how many times I have to answer a question about Marty Brodeur (legendary NHL goalies) or fill in the blank NHL great."

After that line, I felt lucky to only have one of these instances occasionally.

How about you guys. Who is your Tom Chorske?

Criteria:

Someone Famous
Someone Infamous
Someone you're somewhat associated with

My Chorske is probably my cousin Gary. I know an umpire is hardly a beloved sports figure but he's the closest I have. I went through the phase of asking him about players, towns, ballparks until the look he was sending me registered. He was feeling like I was when I go to a function and get trapped by "I know what's wrong with school guy". Now, I just enjoy the occasional comments from people when they catch the name connection. I get to answer the same questions I once asked myself. I can't bring myself to say, it's his job, not a ballpark tour with your buddies checking out the food court and yelling for the peanut schlepper. That's my connection, still, he's no Chorske, he's family.

Al Davis. I know it's hard to believe but people ask me all the time about our old comrade. "Hey, have you seen Al recently? I hear he's moving the Raiders to Salt Lake?" Or, this one I get alot, "Is Al going to entice Daunte out of retirement and trade him for T. Jackson?" Oddly enough, all the old friends of Al who took credit for the phrase, "Just Win, Baby" are now denying it.
